In June of 2022, Keith shared the grim news of his diagnosis on X, stating he had been informed of his condition in the fall of 2021.
"I've spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and therapy," he said in the post. "So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax."

Born Toby Keith Covel on July 8, 1961, in Clinton, Oklahoma, the "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" crooner "landed his first record deal in 1993 after being employed as a rodeo hand, a roughneck and playing semiprofessional football," TMZ reported early Tuesday morning.
Keith made his studio album debut with an eponymously-titled, 13-track opus on April 20, 1993. He ultimately released 19 studio albums in total, his final being 2021's "Peso in My Pocket." Among Keith's greatest hits were "Beer for My Horses" - a duet recorded with Willie Nelson - "Made in America," "Whiskey Girl," "Should've Been a Cowboy," "As Good as I Once Was" and "Who's Your Daddy?"
Keith, who also starred in a 2008 comedy titled "Beer for My Horses," released six compilation albums, two Christmas albums and 20 singles that peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.
Several months prior to the release of his final album in October of 2021, Outsider.com ranked Keith 17th on its list of the 20 best-selling country music artists of all time, with the Oklahoman having sold "25 million units," according to the site.
Long before Keith battled cancer, the two-time AMA award winner helped others in that fight, establishing The Toby Keith Foundation in 2006. According to its website, the foundation "has streamlined its efforts around no-cost housing for children with cancer" at a lodging called OK Kids Korral.
"In 2014, the foundation opened OK Kids Korral, a cost-free, convenient and comfortable home for pediatric cancer patients receiving treatment at The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center, Stephenson Cancer Center and other nearby facilities," it says on the foundation's "Our Mission" page. The page states that their goal is to make a difference in the lives of people and families that are battling against cancer.
Keith is survived by his wife, Tricia, and three children.
