Joe Biden Border Challenge: POTUS Urged by Latino Groups To Swiftly Combat Discrimination in Immigration System
After the Republicans sabotaged the bipartisan border deal on behalf of Donald Trump, Joe Biden now faces new challenges amid the border crisis. Various Latino groups recently approached him on behalf of the Latino community regarding the matter, pointing out the current immigration discrimination issue.
On Tuesday, 35 Latino civil rights, faith, and immigration groups sent a report to the White House regarding a set of 2024 priorities to "advance humane border security and legal pathways for long-settled immigrants in the US."
These groups include UnidosUS, Voto Latino, United We Dream, Mi Familia Vota, and the Immigration Hub, In the document, the groups praised Joe Biden's actions last year in his continued defense of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in court, and the expansion of Temporary Protected Status for some groups, as well as commending the administration's efforts to reunite families separated under the Trump administration's inhumane child separation policy,
However, the document also criticized the Biden administration over several ongoing issues. According to Politico, these issues include the Biden administration's slowness in combating discrimination in the immigration system. The groups also slammed the reinstating of Trump-like policies, including the "Circumventing Lawful Pathways" rule that groups have called a "transit ban."
The challenge the Biden administration is facing regarding the border may stem from the current political climate that demands the government to return to Trump-like policies to combat criticism on the right and crack down on the border. This is evident in the White House's attempt to tighten border security to help combat election-year blowback.

What Does the Latino Groups' Document Regarding Joe Biden's Border Challenge Say?
According to the document from the Latino groups representing the Latino community, Joe Biden's administration must provide protection and relief to keep immigrant families together, as well as rebuild the immigration system. It stated that the administration "must use its legal authority to extend the broadest, most durable protections to the largest number of individuals, especially for individuals who have lived here for years, including DACA and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients."
The Latino groups also challenged Biden to root out discrimination and anti-blackness in the immigration system, as well as promote safe and orderly migration pathways. They also asked Biden to restore and strengthen the asylum and refugee systems and strengthen collaborative hemispheric migration management.
Republican Gave Away Donald Trump's Sabotage of Immigration Deal To Stem Border Crisis
As for why the border crisis got more complicated, many are blaming it on Donald Trump's politicizing of the border issue, as a bipartisan border deal would have made Biden look good.
North Dakota Republican Senator Kevin Cramer gave away the cynical plan to oppose what was supposed to be a bipartisan effort to fix the border all for Trump's political gain, according to The Hill. He stated that a "border deal that actually reduced the flow of illegal immigration, that would be good for [President Biden] politically," stating that the act of taking positive action on immigration hurts Trump as it would go against the narrative that Biden is doing nothing about the border crisis.
