While Nikki Haley fared better than expected on Super Tuesday, not getting swept by Donald Trump and keeping some races closer than expected, she has announced she is dropping out of the race for the White House. This sets up the rematch between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, who faced off in 2020 in a race that Biden won.

"The time has now come to suspend my campaign," she said in a speech in Charleston, South Carolina. "It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond who did not support him and I hope he does that."

Haley was the last candidate left in the Republican race. However, she did not endorse Donald Trump as she dropped out like the other Republicans who also dropped out in the race, instead challenging the former president to earn her supporters, many of whom were considered the "Never Trumpers" of the Republican Party who have vowed never to support him.

The Guardian has noted that with Haley preventing a Donald Trump Super Tuesday sweep, the former president still does not have any delegates to secure the party's nomination for the third straight time. However, he is still on track to secure the nomination despite his 91 criminal charges, attempts to remove him from the ballot over the 14th Amendment, and his losing various lawsuits over defamation and fraud.

Nikki Haley Says She Has No Regrets

As for whether Nikki Haley would eventually support her party's eventual nominee, that still remains to be seen. While she has pledged to support whoever wins the nomination, she recently said that she no longer felt bound by the commitment due to Trump aggressively trying to take control of the RNC. The former president is trying to get his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, who has vowed to use RNC funds to pay for her father-in-law's legal fees.

"I said I wanted Americans to have their voices heard. I have done that," she said in her announcement speech on Wednesday. "I have no regrets."

Will Nikki Haley Supporters Back Donald Trump?

Donald Trump's contentious tactics usually tended to backfire, as was shown in Arizona, where several Republicans flipped and voted for Joe Biden instead after insulting the late Senator John McCain. This was repeated when Kari Lake insulted the McCain Republicans in the state, and they instead voted for the MAGA Republican's Democratic opponent. Would we see a repeat of this for Haley supporters?

The BBC noted while Haley's coalition of never-Trumpers, moderate conservatives, and independents failed to win in several states, they would be a crucial demographic to win over for the general election, and it is crucial for either Donald Trump or Joe Biden to woo them.

"They are the ones who are going to decide this election," Republican strategist Kevin Madden told the British news outlet, which noted that both Trump and Biden know this and they are already making their appeals, with Biden speaking directly to her supporters and emphasizing that they have common ground. Meanwhile, Trump did not offer any concessions to Haley but did invite her supporters "to join the greatest movement in the history of our Nation."
