The Western Mexico state of Jalisco is one of the most brutal places in Mexico as it is home to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, with the most recent act of violence happening when five dead bodies were found piled inside a bulletproof SUV.

The vehicle with the dead bodies was discovered on Tuesday after an anonymous call was made to an emergency number. When police arrived, they found the bodies of five men "with visible signs of violence." However, they did not specify how these five people were killed.

According to the Associated Press, the bulletproof SUV was found abandoned on a road in Villa de Corona, which is located south of Guadalajara, which is near the border with Arizona.

While the state is home to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, or CJNG for short, authorities did not reveal which criminal organization they think was responsible for these deaths, as other smaller crime groups also operate there, though not as powerful or as brutal as the CJNG.

The cartel is known for using homemade or professionally made bulletproof vehicles and having military-grade weapons that were brought over from the United States. It is also infamous for its ISIS-style decapitation videos, with cartel members chopping off the heads of their opponents in a brutal and macabre way.

Mexico's Most Notorious Cartel, Jalisco New Generation Cartel Previously Announced It Was 'Cleaning'

The discovery of the five bodies in Jalisco came just three weeks after the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, considered the most dangerous cartel in Mexico right now, announced that "The cleaning begins."

This "cleaning" is believed to be an operation against the cartel's many rivals, with one victim being Jose Luis Olam, also known as "El Golpes," who was attacked in the state of Tabasco in late February. He was shot three times but survived after being taken to hospital. He is believed to be the leader of a local gang in Tabasco, according to the Daily Star.

The gunman who shot him was believed to be a member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which made the declaration, "The cleaning begins. We are coming for you, Carmen also known as El Sombra, in charge of the Villahermosa prison, for protecting José Luis Olán, also known as El Gopes. He escaped from Comalcalco."

There is now a 500,000 pesos bounty on El Sombra's head, as well as a 100,000 pesos bounty on the guards protecting El Gopes.

Jalisco New Generation Cartel Still Targeting American Tourists With Time Share Fraud

The CJNG is not just into drug trafficking but also timeshare fraud. In fact, the cartel's constant targeting of American tourists has led to the Biden administration imposing massive sanctions against it and its partner companies.

A US government investigation revealed that over the last 10 years, thousands of US citizens, mostly the elderly, were targeted by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel's scheme by offering up timeshare stays in vacation hotspots like Cancun and Puerto Vallarta.

A US government official spoke with USA Today on the condition of anonymity and revealed that the cartel makes more money with the scam than it does with drugs.

 "It's more cash in hand than they make from drugs," said the official. "The overhead is really low for this."
