The Donald Trump porn star hush money trial will finally begin on Monday. It will have historic implications for the United States moving forward as this would be the first time that a former president, let alone a major party's presumptive nominee, will be criminally tried.

Trump has recently tried three times to delay the trial, but each time, the judge threw out his lawyers' arguments. This means that on Monday, Donald Trump will have to attend in person as he is required to, as he faces charges of falsifying business records to pay porn star Stormy Daniels to stay quiet about their alleged affair.

The Donald Trump porn star hush money trial will mainly be about then-candidate Donald Trump's attempts to cover up his $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their 2006 sexual encounter, which happened while Trump's wife, Melania Trump, just gave birth to their son, Baron Trump.

The indictment of Trump, the first to ever happen to a former president, alleged that Trump sent Cohen $420,000 in a dozen installments during his first months in office back in 2017. These payments were recorded in the Trump Organization's internal documents as legal expenses as part of Cohen's retainer agreement. However, prosecutors say that y there were no legal expenses or retainer agreements at the time of these payments. The $420,000 Trump sent Cohen also included the reimbursement for the payment he made to Stormy Daniels.

As Yahoo! News noted, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg must now prove to jurors that it was Donald Trump who instructed Cohen to pay the former adult film actress. Previously, Trump had stated that he sought to keep the former porn star silent because he did not want Melania to know about the allegations.

Donald Trump Hush Money Trial a Do-Or-Die Moment for Ex-POTUS

Trump is known for employing his "Delay-Delay-Delay" strategy, which involves delaying cases so much that they become forgotten by many in the public. For this one, however, he employed the strategy so that the trials could happen after the 2024 elections. Should he win the presidency back, he is expected to have his justice department throw out many of the cases against him.

However, this strategy failed to happen in the porn star hush money case as his eleventh-hour delay tactics kept getting rejected one after another. Trump has even employed his infamous "blame the judge" tactic, directing the fury of his followers to the judge in an effort to dissuade him by attacking his daughter. This also did not work, as the case is still scheduled to begin on Monday.

As he runs out of options to delay, the former president is expected to try and have the case tried in the court of public opinion as he is expected to whine constantly about not being treated fairly. While this is expected to get an eye-roll from critics, this will expectedly infuriate and energize his base, who believes he could do no wrong.

How Much Jail Time Could Donald Trump Face in the New York Hush Money Case?

All 34 felony charges against Trump in the New York porn star hush money case are classified as "Class E felonies" under New York law. These are the state's lowest felony levels, and each count could get a maximum penalty of up to four years of prison, according to USA Today.

However, there is a sentencing cap for Class E felonies in New York, and that is only up to 20 years. With the number of charges he is facing combined, Trump could face up to 20 years imprisonment. With Trump's advanced age, this could very much be a life sentence.

For Class E felonies, New York judges often impose sentencing ranges, with Trump getting the possibility of parole at one-and-a-third years per count on the low end and four years on the high end. Good behavior can also speed things up for him.
