A catastrophic incident unfolded in Brenham, on Friday, resulting in one fatality and injuring 13 others after a Texas man driving a stolen 18-wheeler truck intentionally crashed into a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) building.

Officials deemed the act deliberate, sparking shock and grief in the community, USA Today reports.

According to Sgt. Justin Ruiz of the Texas DPS, law enforcement officers-initiated pursuit of the stolen truck upon recognizing it had been reported as stolen earlier that morning.

The chase culminated in tragedy when the driver, identified as 42-year-old Texas man Clenard Parker of Chappel Hill, Texas, abruptly veered and crashed into the DPS building around 10:30 AM.

During an afternoon press conference, Texas DPS, along with Senator Lois Kolkhorst and Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura, provided updates on the devastating event.

Of the 14 individuals present in the DPS building at the time of the Texas semi-truck crash, all sustained injuries, with one tragically succumbing to their injuries later at the hospital, according to CNN.

The Texas semi-truck Parker was operating had been reported stolen, prompting law enforcement to pursue the vehicle.

Despite the intentional crash, Parker emerged unharmed.

However, three individuals remain in critical condition, with two airlifted to nearby hospitals and one transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

The remaining victims received medical treatment and have been released.
