Ryan Garcia Doping Drama Continues as Golden Boy Promotions Stands By Latino Boxer
After boxer Ryan Garcia tested positive for a banned substance in his upset victory against Devin Haney, Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions defended their rising star and stood by him. The promotion has since released a statement that affirms the promotion's stand on the Ryan Garcia doping scandal.
"Ryan has put out multiple statements denying knowingly using any banned substances - and we believe him," the Golden Boy Promotions statement said. "We are working with his team to determine how this finding came to be and will address this further once we conclude that process."
As Latin Post previously reported, the young Latino boxer Ryan Garcia, considered a rising star in the sport, tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance Ostarine, which has been known for building muscle. He had two tests, one on the day before the fight and another on the day after, with Garcia failing both tests.
The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association sent a letter to Garcia and Devin Haney's camp, informing them that Ryan Garcia tested positive for Ostarine, a selective androgen receptor modulator. According to the Associated Press, it has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. It is also currently not approved by the FDA.
When the doping scandal broke out, Garcia emphatically denied that he knowingly took the banned substance. While he won the match by majority decision in New York, Haney kept the WBC super lightweight belt because Garcia went over the weight limit.
"I've never taken a steroid in my life," said Garcia on a social media post on X. "I don't even know where to get steroids. At the end of the day, I barely take supplements."
It was noted that Garcia could have his win overturned if the positive drug test is confirmed.

Devin Haney Releases Statement After Ryan Garcia Doping Scandal Erupts
Soon after the Ryan Garcia doping scandal broke out, Devin Haney released his own statement, saying that he feels "cheated" and "disrespected" by Garcia, according to Marca.
"We learned about this situation not too long ago and it's unfortunate Ryan cheated and disrespected both the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive not once, but twice," said the WBC super lightweight champion on an Instagram post. "I've always been an advocate for clean fighting and this is an example of such. Ryan owes the fans an apology, and by his recent tweet he still thinks this is a joke."
Ryan Garcia Opponent Devin Haney Has Ties to Notorious Doping King Victor Conte
Despite Haney's statement, however, USA Today pointed out that Haney is working with Victor Conte, the mastermind of the BALCO steroids scandal 20 years ago. The steroids scandal was responsible for the tarnished reputations of several pro athletes, including Barry Bonds and Marion Jones.
Ryan Garcia was also quick to point this out, saying, "I hear Devin Haney, he's connected to Victor Conte, who's connected to VADA, real close. Victor Conte, who's known for getting caught for cheating.''
Haney has been endorsing SNAC, Conte's supplement company.
