'Sons of Anarchy' Season 7 Premiere, Cast News, and Spoilers: Creator Kurt Sutter Confirms Venus Van Dam's Return for Final Season
While the highly anticipated final season of FX's "Sons of Anarchy" is in production, creator Kurt Sutter confirms that Walton Goggins will come back to the hit series as transgender prostitute Venus Van Dam.
Sutter tweeted about the return of the transgender character Wednesday:
I am very happy to report that in season 7 of SOA, THERE WILL BE SOME MUTHAFUCKIN' VENUS!

Goggins debuted in "SOA" in Season 5, when Venus posed for photos that helped Jax Teller and his outlaw motorcycle club blackmail a city council member into voting to let the mayor retain the land rights for his Charming Heights development -- hoping the mayor would then lease the club a property Jax wanted for SAMCRO's new joint business with Nero. In return, Venus asked the club for help in Season 6 to save her 15-year-old "nephew" Joey, who is actually her son, from her mother, Alice, a child pornography producer.
The 42-year-old actor, who told Sutter he was interested in playing Venus, revealed to Entertainment Weekly how he got the role after a while: "He texted me while I was filming [Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained'] down in New Orleans, and he said, 'Were you serious?' I said, 'About what?' He said, 'Are you going to play Venus Van Dam?' I said, 'Have you written it?' And he said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Send me the pages. And I just fell in love with her immediately. It was really important to both of us that we really go there, we make her a three-dimensional person with feelings. Sassy, sweet, smart and beautiful.
After his guest appearance, Walton Goggins wanted to return to the popular series. "I wouldn't be surprised if you see her again before this show is done. I'll just say that," he told EW in October. "She's like a drug for me. And I think she's like a drug for Kurt. Kurt and his writing staff did such a good job of creating this woman who is as strong as they come and now simultaneously as vulnerable as they come. I just ... miss her. I missed her the day that we wrapped, and I miss her now. I hope to be six inches taller than some of the members of the gang on 'Sons of Anarchy' again, but we'll see."
"Sons of Anarchy" Season 7 returns to FX in September.
