Fourth of July 2014 Events in New York City: Fireworks, Parties, Family Fun and More
Whether you're looking to celebrate the Fourth of July with the family or at a party, there's plenty to do in New York City.
For half a century, people have been flocking to New York City to celebrate Independence Day by watching the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. This year, the Brooklyn Bridge will set the stage for the fireworks show, while spectators will gather along the East River to watch over 50,000 pounds of fireworks lighting up the sky.
Starting at 5 p.m. EST, NBC will live stream the event, which will be hosted by Nick Cannon of "America's Got Talent" and include performances by Enrique Iglesias, Ariana Grande, Miranda Lambert and Lionel Richie. The fireworks display starts in earnest at 9 p.m. EST.
YOTEL's 2014 4th of July Endless Summer BBQ is a great way to spend Independence Day if you're looking to chill out on a chic terrace in Manhattan with unlimited barbecue and drinks.
Sky Room is a NYC hot spot that will allow people to celebrate the Fourth in a chic rooftop lounge. Not only will partygoers have a dazzling view of the Macy's fireworks show, but they will also get to enjoy the open bar and picnic-themed snacks. Plus, burlesque dancers will be the entertainment.
For those looking for family fun, there is the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, a nearly century-old tradition held every July 4. Last year, over 40,000 spectators came out to the world's most famous eating contest.
Another great spot for family-friendly fun is the South Street Seaport Pier Party in Manhattan, which includes classic American live music, face painting, a screening of "The Avengers," locally sourced craft beer and wine, and a view of the Macy's fireworks. The events start at 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For the full calendar, visit seechangeny.com.
And for revelers who would rather save the festivities for later in the day, then why not take a stroll in the park? It will have numerous daytime activities for all ages on the Fourth of July.
NYC hot spot La Marina is transporting guests to "Independence Island," a beach party on the Hudson River. It starts at 3 p.m. with DJ Sebjak, and Brooklyn-based rapper Fabolous will keep it going until 1 a.m. with DJ Clue and DJ Spade. Tickets start at $40. If you're looking to make a splash this holiday, then try a SoHo rooftop with views of the fireworks.
