Celia Cruz's Life is Closer to Having a TV Show in English Than Ever
Her life has been portrayed in a Telemundo show
The life of legendary Cuban artist Celia Cruz was portrayed in a Spanish-spoken series in the Telemundo network, but now America's Guarachera is coming back for more. All thanks to a strategic alliance of two of the most powerful Latinas in Hollywood and most connected to our roots.
We are talking about producer, showrunner and screenwriter Gloria Calderón Kellett, known for her work on series like 'One Day at a Time' (Netflix) and 'With Love' (Amazon Prime), and the coolest 'Desperate Housewive' of all, Eva Longoria.
Calderon Kellett's production company GloNation Studios took an important step by partnering with Hyphenate Media Group, the company founded by Eva Longoria and Cris Abrego.
One of the most interesting aspects of this new alliance is that GloNation recently secured exclusive rights to develop television and film projects about the life and legacy of our Celia.
The production company will work with Uncontained Media to bring her story to the screen in a collaboration that promises to honor and promote the career of one of Latin music's most beloved artists.
Kellett, who has been described by her new partners as "a creator with a storytelling style full of heart, humor and universality," expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to grow GloNation as an independent and versatile production company.
Hyphenate Media, which launched its business venture in 2023 with a strategic investment from Banijay Entertainment, has been looking for partners who share its vision of creating high-quality content for diverse audiences.
Abrego and Longoria, co-founders of Hyphenate, have been vocal in their support for Kellett, highlighting her unique ability to tell stories that connect with audiences in a profound way. For Longoria, who has been close friends with Kellett for more than 20 years, the opportunity to invest in her business is especially meaningful, as the two share a vision for the transformative power of storytelling.
Celia Cruz's story
The agreement to get the rights to Celia's legacy is one of the first notable projects of this new partnership. Cruz, known as the "Queen of Salsa," and an authentic symbol of Latin culture, had a career that spanned more than five decades, during which she left an indelible legacy in Latin music.
With more than 80 albums and multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy awards, her impact remains strong even after his passing in 2003. His music, including worldwide hits such as 'La vida es un carnaval' and 'La negra tiene tumbao', continues to resonate with new generations, and with this new project, Kellett and his team will make sure Cruz's legacy continues to shine (we bet just by naming the songs you're already humming them).
This move not only reinforces GloNation's commitment to creating relevant and culturally significant content, but also marks an important milestone in the representation of iconic Latino figures in television and film.
With the backing of Hyphenate Media and Kellett's enthusiasm for exploring new frontiers in the industry, Celia Cruz fans are sure to be excited about the productions that will celebrate her life, legacy and career.
