Back in late 2007, Disney Channel captivated millions of viewers with the premiere of Wizards of Waverly Place. The series, which followed the life of a family of wizards, became an instant hit. It introduced fans to the Russo siblings: Alex (played by Selena Gomez), Justin (David Henrie), and Max (Jake T. Austin), who learned to harness their magical powers inherited from their father, all while trying to live as "normal" humans, running their family's Sub Station business.

The show officially wrapped up in 2012, along with a successful movie. However, the series continued to be replayed, and fans remained eager to follow the cast's careers and any potential future returns to the magical world of Waverly Place.

Now, over 10 years later, a major announcement has caused excitement and stirred emotions among longtime fans-the Russo family is coming back!

Before the end of August, Selena Gomez sat down with Deadline and shared exciting details about the upcoming sequel. "What I would say is now you'll get a glimpse of where Alex Russo and the Russo family is 17 something years later. A lot has changed but there's still the heart of what keeps Wizards of Waverly Place alive. I'm excited and I hope people enjoy it, " she said.

It was also revealed that the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel will premiere on October 29th, with the first two episodes airing on Disney Channel at 8:00 PM. The following day, the first eight episodes will be available on Disney+ and Disney Channel On Demand.

Selena Returns as Alex Russo

In terms of the storyline, Justin Russo is now an adult, living a normal, non-magical life with his family: Giada (Mimi Gianopulos), Roman (Alkaio Thiele), and Milo (Max Matenko). However, when his sister Alex brings Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) to his home seeking help, Justin realizes it's time to dust off his old wizard skills. He becomes Billie's mentor, juggling the responsibilities of daily life and safeguarding the future of the magical world.

David Henrie, who not only reprises his role as Justin but also serves as an executive producer, emphasized the care they've put into this project, especially alongside Selena Gomez. "we want to get right. I think you'll sense that when you watch it. We put a lot of love into this," he said.

Selena Will Appear More Than Expected

Addressing rumors that Selena would only appear in one episode, Henrie clarified the situation, confirming that fans will see plenty of Alex Russo. "She's in multiple episodes. I don't know why people keep saying she's in one." he shared. Henrie also teased some exciting moments for fans of the original series. "We took seriously the timeline of the original show."
