The collaboration between Karol G and Peso Pluma on the song 'Qlona' has become a massive success and the most important song at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The track garnered six nominations and won three at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards, setting a new record for this year's ceremony. The song was vying for awards in key categories, including Song of the Year, Hot Latin Song, Global 200 Latin Song of the Year, Latin Airplay Song of the Year, Sales Song of the Year, and Streaming Song of the Year. The single won Hot Latin Song of The Year, Hot Latin Song: Collaboration of the Year, and Song of the Year: Streaming.

What makes this particularly noteworthy is that Peso Pluma was aiming to replicate his wins from 2023 in several of these categories. Last year, he took home awards like Hot Latin Song and Streaming Song of the Year for his hit 'Ella Baila Sola,' a collaboration with Eslabón Armado.

Now, with 'Qlona,' Peso Pluma and Karol G are set to continue making history together. But how did this track come to life?

How Was 'Qlona' Made?

In an interview with GQ Latinoamérica, Peso Pluma revealed the story behind 'Qlona.' According to the artist, it all began when music producer 'Ovy on the Drums' reached out to him in mid-2023. Ovy, who had worked with Peso Pluma on the song 'El Hechizo' earlier that year, contacted the Mexican artist while he was in New York. Ovy had Karol G with him in the studio and suggested a collaboration between them.

"I landed in New York, and that's when Ovy on the Drums called me. He said, 'I'm here with Karol G, and she wants you on a track,'" Peso Pluma told GQ. The two artists quickly agreed on the project, and Peso Pluma soon traveled to Los Angeles to bring the song to life.

After some discussions and creative brainstorming, they decided that the melody and lyrics of 'Qlona' were the perfect fit for both artists. The result was a track that didn't disappoint, quickly becoming a global sensation.

"I spoke to Karol for about 20 minutes, went to the studio in L.A. to record it, and sent it over... And when it was released, it was a hit," Peso Pluma added. The production team also included Hits League Music, a group of producers and songwriters. One of the contributors, Juanse Navarro, revealed that 'Qlona' was initially meant for his solo project, but it ended up becoming a worldwide hit thanks to the collaboration between Karol G and Peso Pluma.

Despite 'Qlona' being the most nominated song at the Latin Billboards this year, it was not performed live at the event. The performers, announced on October 9, include Gloria Trevi, Yandel, Fuerza Regida, Pepe Aguilar, Proyecto Uno, and Chencho Corleone, among others.

The only live performance of 'Qlona' so far took place during a Peso Pluma concert in Medellín, where Karol G, affectionately known as 'La Bichota,' made a surprise appearance.
