Joan Rivers loves to stir the pot, but her latest comments may have gone too far.

Rivers, who officiated an impromptu gay wedding earlier this week, was asked if she ever thought the United States would have a gay president, notes the New York Daily News.

"We already have it with Obama, so let's just calm down," she replied.

Then, without further prompting, she added: "You know Michelle is a tranny."

That's when she was asked to explain what she meant.

"A transgender," she said. "We all know. It's OK."

The transgender community believes the word "tranny" is a slur, and people didn't hold back from expressing their opinions on Twitter.

Rivers recently spoke out about possibly getting sued by Kristen Stewart, whom she wrote about in her new book, "Diary of a Mad Diva."

She told TMZ that the entire book was satire and that Stewart had no humor.

"Yeah, which shows the sense of humor she has," Rivers said. "My answer to her is: Be glad you're not a Kardashian 'cause they're mentioned a lot more in the book."

And she also had something to say about Chelsea Handler's move from E! to Netflix.

On Huffpost Live, Rivers said Handler didn't handle leaving E! in the best way. Rivers stuck up for E! and said everyone is "lovely" and "nice."

She also explained that the two weren't close after Rivers tried to explain that Handler wasn't the first woman to host a late-night show.

"She came out saying things like, 'I'm the first woman ever to do a late-night show.'" Rivers said. "She did this one day, and I followed her on the dais and I said, 'I guess everyone's forgotten the [Johnny] Carson show.' She never spoke to me again."
