Creators of the hit BBC show "Sherlock" have confirmed the return of the crime thriller series for a special episode in the Christmas season of 2015. The special premiere will be followed by the fourth season which has another three episodes for its air date possibly starting in 2016, according to BBC's website. While the exact date of Season 4's premiere is still unsure, fans can already look forward to a more or less sure thing in the Christmas special release. However, it won't be out this coming Christmas but the next one, so it's still a pretty long wait.

The special will begin filming in January and getting the now very popular co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman together for filming has become difficult because of their extremely busy schedules. However, it's not just the fans who are excited for the next release. Freeman's excitement has led him to share some details about the singleton Christmas special episode. He further mentioned that Amanda Abbington, his real-life partner, would also be reprising her role for the special as Watson's new wife Mary.

Season 3 ended with a finale entitled "His Last Vow" that left the door wide open for possibilities regarding the details in the next installment, making the fans crave for more answers from the season's very short run. Executive producer and writer Steven Moffat said that Season 4 would be the most surprising and shocking series yet. He did not share any details as he and co-creator Mark Gatiss have not finalized the script just yet. Still, they are very confident that the next thing that will happen to Sherlock and Watson will be what the audience would least expect.

While filming in early 2015 looks pretty likely, it's still possible that production would be pushed to a later time because of scheduling difficulties.
