Soccer Transfer News and Rumors: Monaco Wants 80M Euros for Colombian Star James Rodriguez
James Rodriguez turned heads with his performance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and reports indicated that several top-tier teams are interested in getting the Colombian midfielder.
Multiple reports indicated that Real Madrid and Manchester United are interested in Rodriguez, who has six goals and two assists in the Brazil tournament, but Ligue 1 club Monaco is reportedly asking for a hefty fee.
Spanish newspaper AS reported that Monaco is planning to sell Rodriguez for 80 million euros this summer. The Colombia international still has four years left in his contract with Monaco, but the club is willing to part ways with the former Porto midfielder as long as an interested club is willing to match their financial demands.
Real Madrid is said to be the most aggressive suitor of the 22-year-old star, who is also reportedly interested in making a move to Spain this summer.
"I would love to play in Spain. It would be a dream to play there; it is the best league in the world. I prefer Real Madrid to Barcelona," Rodriguez said via FourFourTwo.
According to Independent UK, Rodriguez's interest in Real Madrid could work well for the Spanish club, with sources saying that the price tag could go down to as low as 70 million euros. The price could go down further, considering the fact that Monaco are also interested in several Real Madrid players.
"Monaco are also understood to be interested in several Real Madrid players, including Fabio Coentrao and Alvaro Morata, which could also help drive the price for Rodriguez down," Charles Reynolds of Independent UK wrote.
Manchester United is also keen on signing Rodriguez, but the club is reportedly unwilling to give into Monaco's 80 million euro price tag.
With Rodriguez out of the picture at this point, new Manchester United manager is expected to go after Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria, who is expected to be moved if Los Blancos successfully acquires Rodriguez from Monaco.
