"I'm making potato salad."

This is basically the single sentence header that has collected a sum of over $40,000 from over 3000 backers on the crowdsourcing website Kickstarter. The project by Zack Danger Brown of Columbus started with a humble goal of $10 for him to make potato salad. He did not say anything else to complicate things -- he just wanted potato salad. The only problem he had then was that he had not yet decided what kind he wanted to make.

Brown stretched his goals from tens of dollars to hundreds of dollars and ultimately pegged it at $3,000. But after he made the news, he has collected enormous donations from people on the Internet, going well over 350,000 percent of his goal and prompting him to make it into an even bigger event. His Kickstarter page promises a pizza party, different recipes of potato salad, making hats for his donors, calling a chef, and even inviting his supporters to have a potato salad party. Brown claimed that the Internet loves potato salad, and it seems that he has proven this statement.

While many people found it funny, there are some who were dismayed at the fact that backers have chosen to support and overfund a silly project instead of choosing "more deserving" projects. Polygon, for one, finds the project legitimate. The opinionated website explained how naysayers should not criticize the potato salad project, and those who supported it as it's actually better than most of the other crowdfunding efforts. Even if the backers do not seem to take it seriously, they get to join in the fun of the goofy and satirical yet original campaign.

The best thing about this Potato Salad project is that the creator appears to be sincere with his efforts, and he's not just tricking people to give him some money.
