Aaron Hernandez Fiancee: Will Shayana Jenkins Receive $82,000 Patriots May Owe Hernandez?
The NFL Players Association wants the New England Patriots to cough up $82,000 of unpaid and owed money to Aaron Hernandez for his participation in offseason working programs from April to June of this year.
The NFLPA said that while it is "not tone deaf" to the allegations surrounding Hernandez, the union filed the grievance on behalf of Aaron Hernandez mostly in order to stay consistent with the union's policy.
"On behalf of all players, it is our responsibility to protect the rights in the collective bargaining agreement," the NFLPA said in a statement. "...there are important precedents here we must protect."
Although Hernandez may see the $82,000, the sum is only a very small percentage of the whopping $40 million contract he signed just last year. The contract, of course, has been voided at this point in time.
Hernandez was released from the Patriots on Jun. 26, the same day he was arrested. The former NFL star was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his friend, Odin Lloyd, who died Jun. 17. Hernandez has also been charged with five gun violations. He was indicted last week.
It is not yet known whether Hernandez's fiancée, Shayana Jenkins, will see any of the $82,000 in the form of child support for their son, who is less than a year old. Jenkins' named surfaced earlier this month when it was learned that she was being investigated by authorities in the search for the murder weapon.
Hernandez, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is being held without bail. According to MY FOX Boston, The Bristol County District Attorney's office has announced that Hernandez will be arraigned next Friday at 2 p.m. in Fall River Superior Court.
