Angelina Jolie vs. Daily Mail: Actress Takes Legal Action to Remove Video Released by Newspaper
Actress Angelina Jolie is taking legal action against the Daily Mail after the newspaper released a video online they claim is from the late 1990s when Jolie was addicted to heroin. According to the London Times, the "Maleficent" star feels the newspaper's actions were a "gross violation of her privacy."
The video, which was supposedly recorded by Franklin Meyer who claimed he was Jolie's former drug dealer in New York, is a 16-minute video of the star pacing her apartment while speaking to someone on the telephone. Jolie's hair is an unmaintained bleached blonde and her frame is extremely gaunt. In the video, there is no mention of drugs or any visual evidence that Jolie was high, but Meyer insisted he sold the star heroin and cocaine on many occasions.
Meyer told the "National Enquirer," who originally had the video, "Angie was a client of mine for several years. I sold her heroin and cocaine. One day she called me up and wanted me to drop by her place. That was her way of telling me she wanted me to bring her drugs. ... At the time, I had just bought a video camera and decided to bring it along. When I arrived, I just gave her the drugs, and then she gave me the money."
According to Meyer, who is a convicted drug dealer and has previously alleged that he dealt to Jolie, the actress is captured speaking to her dad, actor Jon Voight, on the phone although it is unclear from Jolie's conversation in the video.
This is the second incident in recent weeks of Hollywood celebrities attacking the Daily Mail for its stories. George Clooney wrote a USA Today op-ed denouncing the newspaper over reports that his fiancée's mother was against Clooney and lawyer Amal Alamuddin getting married. The newspaper issued an apology to Clooney, which he also rejected, but at this time has not responded in regards to Jolie.
