#JusticeForJada: Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith Calls for Justice for Alleged Teenage Rape Victim
Jada Pinkett Smith is calling for justice for a 16-year-old teenager from Houston, Texas, who was allegedly raped and then taunted online by her peers.
To raise awareness about the teen who says her rapist posted compromising video and photos of her online after she was sexually assaulted, the 42-year-old actress posted a Facebook note, using the hashtag #justiceforjada:
"This could be you, me, or any woman or girl that we know. What do we plan to do about this ugly epidemic? #justiceforjada."
The mother-of-two and wife of Will Smith also attached a link to a news article in which the victim spoke out against her attacker.
In an interview with KHOU11 News, the teen girl identified as Jada, said she passed out at a house party after being handed a drink that she believes was spiked. She was then unclothed, assaulted and videotaped. In addition, she says that her attackers photographed her unconscious body in different poses. Afterward, she says that they shared the images online and began bullying her using the hashtag #jadapose. Eventually, other people also began mocking her.
"I had no control. I didn't tell anyone to take off my clothes and do what they did to me," the girl said in the interview.
"Everybody knows," she said. "And everybody's texting me, 'Are you okay? You're going to be okay.'"
The teenager says she hopes she can use the media to help bring her alleged rapist to justice.
"There's no point in hiding," she said. "Everybody has already seen my face and my body, but that's not what I am and who I am."
Jada also called for her attacker to be arrested, adding that she was angry after the attack and wants to begin homeschooling.
Houston Police said they are investigating the incident.
In the meantime, Jada's mother, who chose not to be identified, also told KHOU, "No one's daughter deserved this. No human being deserved this."
