Disney World, 'Pirates of the Caribbean': British Tourist's Fingertips Sliced Off During Ride
A man was rushed to the hospital after stepping off the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, Thursday .
The tourist, a man in his 40s from the U.K. told officials his ring and little fingertips were sliced of during the ride, according to the Daily Mail.
The man claimed responsibility for the injury and told theme park official he had his fingers dangling outside of the log flume ride.
Visitors are warned at the beginning of each ride to keep their hands and arms inside the log at all times.
Immediately following the incident the man was taking off the ride and was waiting on the platform when emergency responders reached him.
The ride, at Magic Kingdom, was shut down while engineers inspected it.
Engineers cleared the ride, saying there were no malfunctions, and the ride was reopened soon after.
A spokesman from the fire department said, "The man lost the tip of his ring finger down to the bottom of the nail, while the little finger was about down to the first knuckle. From the medical reports they were sliced clean off."
Park spokesman Bo Jones said, "He was very calm and not freaking out, and the medics said he said the accident was his fault as he had his hand where it should not have been. He was very calm and just said he needed band aid for his fingers. He did not want a fuss made and kept repeating he had his hand where it should not have been."
The ride opened at Magic Kingdom Dec. 15, 1973, after having been originally built in California's Disneyland park.
The ride was the inspiration behind Disney's blockbuster movie by the same name, starring Johnny Depp, according to Disney World.
