'Guardians of the Galaxy' Movie Release Date, Cast & Spoilers: New 'Guardians 3000' Comic Book Returning
On Aug. 1, the comic-book-to-film adaptation of "Guardians of the Galaxy" will make their way on to the big screen, meanwhile, the original comic book version will get a reboot of its own.
"Guardians 3000," the new title for this "Guardians of the Galaxy" comic book, will feature more time travel, newer characters, and enthusiastic writers and artists. "Guardians 3000" is expected to debut in October.
Just like the upcoming film, "Guardians 3000" is in the Marvel Universe. It will be written by Dan Abnett, with art by Gerardo Sandoval. In this Marvel version, Abnett and Sandoval will be reintroducing the initial team: this will be a group of freedom fighters, plucked from our time and placed in the 31st century, Wired magazine reported. Similarly, "Guardians 3000" will also feature a tree and a raccoon as part of the group.
The first comic book "Guardians" first appeared in the Marvel Super Heroes Issue #18 in 1969. It was created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan. In that story, there was a telekinetic person called Major Victory, who was re-awakened from suspended animation, after travelling for a millennia to Alpha Centauri. After the Major's reawakening, he discovered that a vicious race known as the Badoon, was ruling nearly all of the galaxy.
The Major then gets help from a "Jovian" soldier with super strength called Charlie-27; Martinex, a scientist who is made of crystals; and, Starhawk, and Yondu. All of them team up to travel back into time to stop the Badoon's control. These Guardians occasionally met up with the Avengers, or some present day super heroes, Wired magazine reported.
About the "Guardians 3000," Abnett states that this comic is going back to its original roots, while keeping the team's history intact.
Abnett says, "It's set (to begin with) in 3014 and it's the classic, original Guardians. Then some wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff happens. I am dedicated to not overthrowing any continuity. This isn't a reboot or re-invention. This is a restart. Everything's canon. Everything a reader needs to know, be they old and familiar or new and startled, will be in the series. There will be 'Easter eggs' for the old guard, and total explanation for the newbies," Wired magazine reported.
Abnett also revealed that the upcoming "Guardians 3000," is coming out of an Abnett and Sandoval story in "Guardians of the Galaxy" Issue #14, Newsarama reported.
In this "Guardians 3000," the team will also be saving the future from the Badoon's reign over the galaxy, Newsarama reported.
