WWE SmackDown Spoilers, Results for July 18, 2014: Dean Ambrose Battles Kane Before BattleGround
Dean Ambrose kicks off the July 20 edition of WWE Smackdown, still seething mad from the beating he took Monday night at the hands of Seth Rollins, Triple H and Kane that prevented him from participating in the main event against the trio, promising retribution against them all by the end of the night.
Alberto Del Rio, who is a participant vying for the prestigious Intercontinental Championship that was recently vacated by "Bad News" Wade Barrett, prepared for Sunday night's Battleground Battle Royal for the title by defeating Kofi Kingston in singles competition.
The bout between Alicia Fox and Eva Marie, with guest referee Nikki Bella slated to officiate the match, ended in a no-contest when Fox and the E! Total Diva cast-member attacked Bella rather than go through with their match, most likely on the orders of The Authority's Stephanie McMahon.
Chris Jericho faced Luke Harper of The Wyatt Family, winning via disqualification after he was assaulted by Erick Rowan and Bray Wyatt while Y2J clamped down The Walls of Jericho on Harper during the match. The Usos, who will defend their WWE Tag Team titles against Rowan and Harper at Battleground, ran into the ring to make the save for Jericho.
Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter went down to the ring and continued their new-age Cold War verbal barrage against Lana and Rusev before being interrupted by the European duo, setting up a likely match at Battleground for the two superstars.
In a match featuring participants involved in the Battleground Battle Royal for the Intercontinental Championship, Dolph Ziggler teamed up with United States Champion Sheamus to defeat Fandango and The Miz in tag team action.
WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee and former champ Paige -- who gets a rematch after losing the title to AJ earlier this month -- beat Layla and Summer Rae after the champ caught Summer Rae in her Black Widow finisher.
Dean Ambrose and Kane ended their main event singles match in a no-contest after Seth Rollins interfered in the bout, helping Kane double-team his former Shield partner continue what they started on "Monday Night Raw." Kane, looking to end a nuisance for The Authority, choke-slammed Ambrose atop the steel steps that "The Big Red Monster" brought into the ring to inflict further damage on Ambrose. Rollins added further insult to injury, nailing Ambrose with his Peace of Mind curb stomp on top of the steps, in hopes of keeping him from interfering with his title ambitions, to end the show.
