Eminem New Album 2013 Songs: New Singles 'Berzerk' and 'Survival' Released [VIDEO]
Legendary rapper Eminem gave the musical world quite the surprise when he announced the release of his new album in a commercial during Sunday's Video Music Awards on MTV. So far he has already released two songs from the album, creating quite a buzz in the process.
The new album is called "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" (MMLP2), and the title hints at the possibility of a return stylistically to where he was when he made the first Marshall Mathers LP back in 2000. It will have input from big name producers such as Em's right hand man Dr. Dre as well as legend Rick Rubin.
Eminem became a household name after his first two controversial records, the Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP, became mega-hits in the rap community. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, was noted for his interchangeable use of anger and humor along with remarkable lyrical dexterity.
Eminem shied away from that combination of anger and humor in his last album, titled "Recovery." He instead used it as an opportunity to confront some of his long-lingering demons and provide an inspirational backdrop for his future, with the spirit of the album perhaps best portrayed in its single "Not Afraid."
Now, however, it appears that Eminem is going back to the more manic side of things with his latest album. Certainly one of his aptly named singles released so far, "Berzerk," is bordering on the insanity Eminem had hinted at during "Relapse" back in 2009. As the Mirror notes, it also has a decidedly old school flair:
"The controversial rapper unveiled the gritty tune which has some serious Beastie Boys vibes online. It's vintage Slim Shady with a darker beat and more witty lyrics than his most recent work which will no doubt leave fans eager to hear the rest of his new music later this year."
The other single, "Survival," while certainly a bit more controlled in its delivery, is still a far cry from the same mood he had on Recovery. For the rest of the album we will all probably have to wait until it hits stores Nov. 5.
