HBO 'True Detective' Season 2 Cast & Plot Details Update: Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch Rumored Male Leads, Cocaine and Sexual Exploitation in California
According to Latino Post, fans of Season 1 of the hit TV series "True Detective" were clamoring for more of the Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson team up for Season 2 after being gripped by a storyline that was very different from other police procedurals.
The two original stars played obsessive detectives who were trying their best to solve a string of murders in the coast and backwoods of Louisiana. The actors gave strong performances in Season 1 with the program earning 12 Emmy nominations.
Even with the twists in the storyline that kept viewers at the edge of their seats, there is not one single story in the drama that will bridge the gap between the two seasons. And while fans would very much love to have McConaughey and Harrelson back for Season 2, this is not going to happen. The writing style of the second season will also be very different, Indiewire reported.
There were many speculations on who would be the next star in the series. According to The Wrap, Colin Farrell is in talks to be one of the lead actors in Season 2 of "True Detective." It has also been rumored that Taylor Kitsch is being eyed to play the younger male lead character. Although HBO has not issued any confirmations yet, there were insiders that are saying that the deal is almost done and that HBO has done a good job of securing the services of Colin Farrell who is very much suited to play the gritty and rugged older male lead in Season 2.
Season 2 moves over to California, and creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto had been teasing the media with leaks as to the plot. Although still unverified, Colin Farrell's character will be that of an officer working for the California Highway Patrol. He was suspended for the sexual exploitation of a young woman that he pulled over and will be dealing with his personal demons as well, such as anger management issues and cocaine dependence.
