During a recent interview with the TheGrio, Keke Palmer opened up about why she turned down the opportunity to portray the late Whitney Houston in an upcoming Lifetime biopic.

"Initially, I was thinking about the Whitney Houston [Biopic] ... to play Whitney, but I don't know if that was a story that I wanted to tell, because the family's not involved, and that's a big part for me," Keke said.

Prior to her chance to play Whitney Houston on Lifetime, Palmer portrayed Chilli from the historic R&B group TLC in a VH1 biopic.

TLC members, Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, executive produced the TLC biopic and worked closely with Palmer and the other cast members during the filming process.

However, Whitney Houston's biopic, which is being directed by Houston's "Waiting to Exhale" co-star Angela Bassett, has had no support from Houston's family.

"I think if you're going to do a movie or biopic about someone, the family needs to be involved, because you want it to be as honest as possible," Palmer said. "I think that was what didn't really make me go out for it."

Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, recently slammed Bassett on Twitter for not considering her as an actress to take on the role of her mother, reports the Huffington Post.

Instead, Bassett and Lifetime opted to cast "The Butler" star, Yaya DaCosta, as the iconic singer.

When asked for her response to Bobbi's reaction, Palmer revealed that she "understands her frustration."

"I can't say that everything [Bobbi Kristina] said was perfectly said or anything like that, but I can understand her frustration. I think it came more from the family not being involved at all... It feels as if you're trying to use the name but you're not really even caring about the people that are gonna be affected by it, like the family," said Palmer.
