'Destiny' Codes Open Beta for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 & Xbox One: Xbox Live Gold & PlayStation Plus Subscribers Can Download Game, Earn Special Rewards [Trailer]
In a surprising move by Bungie, codes are no longer needed to play the "Destiny" beta but just a subscription to Xbox Live Gold or PS+, meaning it's practically open to everyone who owns the new consoles with subscriptions, Engadget reports.
Although it didn't seem to be part of the original plan, those who were upset about not getting a code now have a chance to play the beta for free.
Bungie opened the server to everyone at midnight on Thursday. It was announced on the game producer's official blog without further details on when it will be available until, possibly implying that gamers may enjoy it all through the end of beta this coming Sunday.
The only requirement to play the beta is a paid-for subscription to Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus and the game is readily downloadable from the dashboard of the respective console. This decision by the developer could be for them to test how the server will hold up with a lot of people playing at the same time.
No problems have been experienced so far, and according to Bungie's blog it has been "eye-opening" so far, watching "Destiny's" world come to life and the adventures unfold. The developers have also observed the players' experience with the game and listened to their feedback. With the discoveries, Bungie can prepare for the launch of the game two months from now.
"Destiny," Bungie's latest shooter game, is available for a beta run on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. A special reward is waiting for players who are testing the game, which will be carried over to the final version that will be released on September. "Destiny" is set to redefine the FPS gameplay in terms of story and gaming modes.
Destiny is available for preorder online for $59.99.
