'Criminal Minds' Season 10 Spoilers: Showrunner Erica Messer Says Jennifer Love Hewitt Character is 'Different'
In addition to all the excitement promised in Season 10 of "Criminal Minds," there will also be new faces in the long running CBS series.
Starting this fall, Jennifer Love Hewitt will appear on the show as a series regular in character as Kate Callahan, a "seasoned undercover agent whose stellar work at the FBI has landed her a coveted position with the Behavioral Analysis Unit," reports Entertainment Weekly.
"We're thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Jennifer Love Hewitt to our amazing cast," said showrunner Erica Messer. "Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again. We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 10th season."
Messer also dropped a recent teaser about the actress, telling TVLine, "You see [Kate] doing something you don't see our team ever doing, which is schmoozing with a bad guy, working undercover to take a pedophile down. We've never seen our team pretend to like a criminal, so right off the bat she's different in that way."
On Tuesday, CBS a posted behind-the-scene shot on its official Twitter account of Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays the role of Dr. Spencer Reid, episode writer Janine Sherman Barrois and a "Criminal Minds" director.
"On #CriminalMinds, a director, actor & writer walk into a bar...nope, turns out it was a morgue. EP10x02 Day 3 of 8," read the caption.
Back in May, Season 9 ended with a shocking twist when one of the main characters, Alex Blake, made a sudden exit.
From the previews, it appeared that Spencer Reid's life would be in jeopardy after he was shot in the neck. However, he managed to recover from his gunshot wound. Blake was forced to quit her job on the FBI's elit Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) after being traumatized by the shooting.
According to the Examiner, Jeanne Tripplehorn's contract on the show was up, so producers decided to give her a calm and quiet farewell. In an interview with TV Guide, executive producer Erica Messer opened up about Blake's departure from the long-running crime series and dropped a few spoilers about what to expect in Season 10.
She explained that kicking Blake off the show was a mutual decision that she and Tripplehorn made together.
"As things unfold toward the end of the season, when contracts are up and all that stuff, she and I discussed what we wanted to do with the character. We landed on this, and Jeanne wasn't interested in a big, flashy exit episode."
