Lady Gaga Album 2014: 'Applause' Star to Collaborate on Jazz Album with Tony Bennett [Watch]
On Tuesday, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett were on The Today Show and announced the release date of their duet jazz album "Cheek to Cheek."
In addition to announcing the album's release date, Gaga and Bennett also unveiled the video for their first single, which is their version of Cole Porter's "Anything Goes."
During their sit down with Carson Daly on the "Today" show, both Grammy winning artists gushed about their partner's vocal abilities on the collaborated album.
"I love the way she sings. She sings so wonderful and she's actually really a great jazz singer," Bennett told Carson Daly about Gaga. "She improvises every time we do a song. We do it over and over, and it's different every time."
Gaga returned the compliment and responded, "The collaboration has just been so wonderful. It's so natural singing with Tony. I just learn so much from him every day. I'm so happy."
Though Gaga is known for her pop sound and music, she revealed that she grew up listening to and singing jazz music, reported MTV.
It was her rendition of Nat King Cole's "Orange Colored Sky" that initially sparked her collaboration with Bennett, she explained during her interview.
"Since I was 13, I've been singing jazz and I sang 'Orange Colored Sky' in this event that we [Bennett and I] did together to raise money for the impoverished people of New York City," Gaga said. "He [Bennett] heard me sing the song and he said 'I love it. You singing jazz. You want to do an album together?' And I said, 'Of course!'"
While working on the album, Gaga immortalized her collaboration with Bennett by way of a tattoo.
"I asked Tony to sketch a trumpet for me, and he decided to sketch Miles Davis' trumpet -- an iconic trumpet. I decided to get a tattoo 'cause I loved it so much," she said.
Some of the songs featured on "Cheek to Cheek" include covers of "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," "Sophisticated Lady" and "Lush Life," Today reported.
"Cheek to Cheek" is available on iTunes now. Will you be purchasing? Share your comments below.
