Labor Day 2013 MDA Telethon Live Streaming - Performers: Backstreet Boys, Austin Mahone and More!
The MDA Show of Strength Telethon is back again this year with a star-studded list performers.
In its 48th year as one of the most successful fund raising events for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), the annual telethon is bringing together the brightest stars for one reason: to find a cure for the disease.
According to Yahoo!, opening up the telethon this Sunday (9/8c) is the Backstreet Boys. Airing on ABC TV stations across the U.S., the show featured Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson performing their first single "In A World Like This" off their eighth, still untitled studio album.
"Performing at an event like the MDA telethon has a much deeper meaning to us now that we all have families or children of our own," Littrell told Yahoo! "When I met the families at the show, I made sure to tell them that their children are an inspiration to all of us, and I encouraged them to be strong, and to continue to hold their loved ones close and fight together."
Also performing at the ongoing telethon is Matthew Morrison. The Glee star told People.com that the opportunity to perform at the show is "humbling."
"I don't consider it a challenge, but rather an honor. I'm just excited to be part of a great show for a great cause," he said.
The two-hour telethon also featured performances by pop star Austin Mahone, Enrique Iglesias, Paula Abdul, Luke Bryan and host Ryan Seacrest.
"We hear that research for many of these diseases is moving at an incredible pace, so we all agree that we'll continue to do our part to help MDA keep moving forward in its search for treatments and cures," Litrell added.
Over the years, the MDA telethon has raised million for research to find treatment and cure for Muscle Dystrophy. As of this writing, the 48th annual telethon has already raised $8 million.
