George Clooney Movie News: Jodie Foster to Direct 'Money Monster' Film
Fresh off an Emmy nomination for directing an episode of the Netflix hit "Orange Is the New Black," Jodie Foster for the first time will direct a film starring George Clooney, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The film, "Money Monster," will start filming in early 2015 and the worldwide rights to the film belong to TriStar Productions. It has a $30 million budget.
"Money Monster" will be focused on a TV show host -- played by Clooney -- who is taken hostage by a gunman while he is live on-air. While captive, Clooney's character must reveal confidential secrets to the audience in order to stay alive.
"It is impossible to resist saying that we at TriStar hit the talent jackpot today," TriStar Chairman Tom Rothman said in a statement. "We are deeply grateful to all the exceptional people involved. There is no one in the business whose talent, dedication and intelligence, I respect more than Jodie Foster."
Prior to this film, Foster directed 2011 film "The Beaver," which featured Mel Gibson and Jennifer Lawrence, the 1995 film "Home for the Holidays," and the 1991 film "Little Man Tate," according to Indie Wire. She also directed on episode of "House of Cards," which stars Kevin Spacey.
"I couldn't be more thrilled to start our 'Money Monster' adventure alongside such a talented and passionate team," Foster said in a statement. "[Chairman] Tom Rothman and TriStar really get the movie and are the best cheerleaders our filmmaking team could hope for."
Foster rose to stardom after she played character Clarice Starling in the Oscar-winning film "The Silence of the Lambs," and has starred in several films since.
Despite being out of the director's chair in "Money Monster," Clooney recently has been trying his hand as a director. His directorial efforts include "The Monuments Men" and "The Ides of March". He also has another film in pre-production, called "Hail, Caesar!"
