Remy Ma Released From Prison Following 2008 Shooting
Rapper Remy Ma's prison sentence ended Thursday and the MC has said she has not had a dramatic life change while behind bars.
The female rapper told Power 105.1's radio show host Angie Martinez that while prison did make her a more mature individual, Ma never experiences an "emphatic life change."
"I grew up a lot, like I look at things differently," she told Martinez. "Looking back and looking at everything else, I was able to see a lot of things ... You get to see from [different perspectives] when you're stuck in one spot and you can't just go as you please and do things as you please ... it's the simple things, you can't take a shower when you want to. You can't make something to eat when you want, you can't wear your hair how you want."
Ma also reflected during the interview on her marriage to rapper Papoose, saying he has taken his vow to love her "for better or worse to heart."
"I'm still shocked," Ma said. "He's an official dude. He held me down better than my best friends that I grew up with and family members."
Remy Ma said she has been talking with several record labels, but is waiting before entering the rap game again. She also commented on how hip hop is in a current drought of prominent female rappers. The only female MC Remy mentioned was Nicki Minaj, arguably the most successful woman in hip hop today.
"[Nicki] has always been a supporter," Ma said. "I love what she's done, she's done wonderful things for females but ... I just wish there was more of them [female rappers]. I don't know what they're doing, they're letting these guys take over."
