'Doctor Who' Season 8 Air Dates: BBC Announces Specials, Marathon Leading up to 'Deep Breath' Episode Premiere
The award-winning Peter Capaldi sets a new beginning for the timeless series "Doctor Who" as he takes on the role of the mysterious time traveller in the character of the new Doctor who explores both time and space in his journeys.
The latest season with the new Doctor will be premiering on BBC on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 8 p.m. ET on BBC America. As announced on Multichannel News, superfan of the series comedian Chris Hardwick will be hosting the "Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show" to be followed by the "Doctor Who: After Who Live" features at 7:30 p.m. ET and 11 p.m. ET, respectively.
The pre- and post-shows will feature guests who are involved in the production of the show, including actor and writer Mark Gatiss. Exclusive footages showing behind-the-scenes will be shown as well.
The premiere episode entitled "Deep Breath" features an exciting adventure through London in the Victorian period. It will be the first episode for the new Doctor with his co-star and companion Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. Other characters in the upcoming season include Dan Starkey as Strax, Catrin Stewart as Jenny Flint and Neve McIntosh as Madame Vastra.
BBC America will also be featuring specials entitled "Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion" to be followed by "The Real History of Science Fiction" and "Doctor Who: The Ultimate Time Lord" to accompany the premiere of the fourth season of Doctor Who.
Fathom Events will be handling the celebration of the latest season's launch in 12 theatrical events to be held at 12 midnights in 12 cities. More announcements will be made on their official website.
There will be a marathon called "Doctor Who Takeover Week" that will begin on Monday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m. ET. BBC America will be giving the fans of "Doctor Who" a chance to vote for their favorite episode of the beloved television series with the top choices to be shown in a marathon on Sunday, Aug. 24.
