Jailbreak iOS 7 News: Updated 7.1 Jailbreak Discovered by Georgia Tech Team
A new jailbreak for Apple's iOS 7.1 software was discovered by a group of researchers at the Georgia Tech University this week. This is the latest jailbreak available and it appears to be working for iOS 7.1.
Developers and hackers had trouble getting past Apple's software security in order to jailbreak the latest software. Evad3rs, which typically works on the jailbreaking iOS software, hasn't been able to jailbreak iOS 7.1 as of yet.
The team had to get around Apple's security. When Apple receives a security threat, like someone hacking into their system or even jailbreaking their software, they release a new security patch. The Georgia Tech team had to find a way to get past these security patches by using a "multi-step attack."
The team of researchers was able to carry out the jailbreak at the Black Hat USA conference, a security conference held in Las Vegas.
"We start by finding new ways to exploit vulnerabilities with incomplete patches," said Tielei Wang, a team member said. "Then, we use those vulnerabilities to discover new avenues of attack. We'll detail these vulnerabilities and the exploit techniques that we developed."
As of now, it is unclear whether the jailbreak will be released to the public.
The only other jailbreak known for the latest iOS 7 version is through the Chinese Pangu team.
A well-known hacker Stefan Esser said the Chinese team stole his work and that their version has Chinese malware embedded in it.
It's unlikely that this jailbreak will last very long, as Apple will probably release a new security patch in order to address this. With iOS 8 rumored for the fall, it will be interesting to see if any new jailbreaks will be released between now and then.
If this jailbreak is released to the public, will you install it? Let us know below in the comments section.
