Xbox One Release Date, Price and Specs: Console Won't Support External Storage at Launch Day
Xbox One's external HDD support won't be ready on launch day, reports Game Spot.
Citing a Question and Answer session at PAX on September 1, host Larry Hryb announced that the console will not support external storage in the November launch.
"The future plan for Xbox One is definitely to support external storage, much like we do on the Xbox 360. My understanding is that the feature will not be there at launch because the team is working on some other things, but it definitely is on the list. I don't know when it will come in, though," said Hryb.
The Xbox One comes with a 500 GB hard drive which will hopefully last gamers until the console's promised external HDD support comes in.
As for rival PlayStation 4, officials have already confirmed that the console will not be allowing users to install games to an external hard drive. The announcement was made through the Twitter account Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment. PS4 users will be allowed to replace the game console's 500GB hard drive, though.
Xbox voice commands will also only be available in 5 countries on launch day. Slash Gear quotes a fine print on the game console's website:
"Xbox voice commands will not be available in all markets on the product release date. Voice commands will be available at launch in US, UK, CA, FR, and DE."
On another note, the Microsoft console will be supporting "free to play" games. Microsoft has confirmed that it won't be placing restrictions on the distribution models available to independent developers, says Slash Gear in another report.
Although a November launch for the Xbox One has been set and is definite, a specific date for the launch is still to be revealed.
Kotaku earlier reported that the Xbox One will be launched on November 8. Citing an unnamed source who "works for a marketing company that handles signage and product placement for retail giant Walmart," Kotaku hints on a probable November 8 release date for the much awaited Microsoft console.
A day later, Kotaku published another write-up regarding the alleged November 8 release date. A source "close to Microsoft" has told them that the rumored release date is not true.
