'Glee' Actor Originally From Costa Rica Joins 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' Sequel
Costa Rican-born actor Harry Shum Jr. has joined the cast of the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" sequel, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
Shum Jr. is best known for playing Mike Chang in Fox's hit show "Glee." The show is on hiatus until 2015, giving the 32-year-old actor time to fulfill the role, Fox News Latino reports.
Although he is best known for his role in a musical high school drama, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" isn't the first highly-physical movie to cast Shum Jr. The actor also played Cable in 2008's "Step Up 2: The Streets" and 2010's "Step Up 3D."
In addition, Shum Jr. already thinks of himself as an athlete, Huffington Post reports. He even co-created "Parallels," a four video series about his athletic, pro-dancing lifestyle. The videos feature various other guests with passions of their own, such as skateboarding, motocross and ballet.
"I'm not out to change people's perspectives and convince them one way or the other," Shum Jr. told Huffington Post. "I just want to open their eyes to the possibilities."
The sequel to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" takes place 20 years after its predecessor and "revolves around four heroes of the martial arts world -- Silent Wolf, Yu Shu-lien, Tie-Fang and Snow Vase -- who must use their courage and skills to keep the legendary sword Green Destiny from the hands of the villainous Hades Dai," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Production on the movie began last week. It will be filmed in China and New Zealand and will be directed by Woo-ping Yeun, who was a choreographer for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and stunt coordinator for martial arts films like the 1978 Jackie Chan film "Drunken Master" and 2004's "Kill Bill: Vol. 2," according to IMDb.
The U.S. sequel to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" does not have a release date yet.
