Xbox One Release Date: Microsoft Needs To 'Cough Up' Info, Says EA Executive
Electronic Arts executive Peter Moore says the company is getting frustrated by the fact that there is still no official release date for the Xbox One. With the holiday season just around the corner, Microsoft will have to announce a release date soon or the criticism will continue to mount. Gottabemobile.com says that one leak says the Xbox One will be released Nov. 8 while another report says Nov. 22.
Other reports say that the console will be released sometime within 2 weeks of the launch of the PS4, which will debut Nov. 15. However, Moore says his company needs more information to help in the manufacturing of games ahead of the launch.
"[What] we have to worry about is getting the flow of manufacturing right, getting the quantities right, making sure everything is at retail," he said to gi.biz. "Depending on which goes first they may want to change the store to focus on the new console coming out, I mean it's just what we do. That's the work we do, that's the business that we're in."
Regardless, this will be the first time that the release dates for the new consoles are expected to be so close together. Some have even raised the question of whether the Xbox One and the PS4 would be released on the same day, which is a possibility considering that Microsoft has left everyone guessing.
In other news this week, Microsoft's Director of Programming, Larry Hyrb, announced that the Xbox One would not immediately have external storage like the Xbox 360 currently has. My understanding is that the feature will not be there at launch because the team is working on some other things, but it definitely is on the list," Hyrb said.
