Female pitcher Mo'ne Davis threw a complete-game shutout to lead the Taney Youth Baseball Association Little League of Philadelphia to an 8-0 win over Newark National Little League of Delaware.

Davis struck out six players in the six-inning showdown with Newark in the Mid-Atlantic Regional finals, leading her team to the Little League World Series that is scheduled to start on Thursday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Davis was on target right from the opening pitch up to her final throw, allowing just three hits and walking just three on 80 pitches in the match.

"I was just throwing strikes. All my pitches were working. I wasn't throwing my hardest but I was throwing hard enough that they couldn't get it," Davis said via Philly.com.

Newark knew what to expect from Davis as she also performed well against them during the pool play where she struck out 10 batters in just five innings, but the 13-year-old pitcher managed to keep Newark's batters guessing for the entire match.

"She was on, she was in control from start to finish. She was great, I tip my hat to her," Newark manager Tim Bush said.

Aside from Davis, Taney batters also had outstanding performances as Jared Sprague-Lott, Zion Spearman and Jack Rice had RBIs in the first inning to give their team a comfortable lead that they never relinquished.

"To come out and play from ahead is huge," Taney manager Alex Rice said. "They came to play today, from the moment they stepped on the field they wanted it," Rice said. "We asked them to give us 2 hours of the best baseball they've played in their life and they did it."

With the win, Davis will become the first American girl to play in the Little League World Series since 2004 and 18th overall in 68 years, while Taney will be the first team to represent Philadelphia in the series.
