Kate Upton Named Model Of The Year, On Cover of Vanity Fair 100th Anniversary Issue
In a surprise to very few individuals, Kate Upton has been named model of the year.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the 21-year-old supermodel will be awarded her prize today at the 10th Annual Style Awards, which kick off the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Nicole Richie will host the event, which will also honor fashion designers Rachel Zoe and Zac Posen and New York Giants wide receiver/designer Victor Cruz. The event will be televised Sept. 14 on CNN, Glamour reports.
Aside from receiving the award, Upton is also featured on the cover of Vanity Fair's upcoming 100th anniversary issue, which hits L.A. and New York newsstands tomorrow. On the pin-up girl inspired cover, photographed by Annie Leibovitz, Upton wears a vintage swimsuit while holding a celebratory cake.
The high-profile model discusses American women in her feature story.
"I'm not going to name names, but one agency told me, 'You're too American, and everybody knows American women are lazy," she tells Vanity Fair. "I was so offended! I've never been so offended! I was like, 'You know that you're in America, right?' And it wasn't 'American models - it was 'American women are lazy' period! I feel like a lot of women would disagree with that. A lot!"
Although Upton is famous for her "normal size" figure and for landing the cover of Sports Illustrated twice, she is also known for her social media presence on Twitter. Her current avatar is her Vanity Fair cover.
Upton has also forayed into acting, appearing in 2011's "Tower Heist" and 2012's "The Three Stooges." She will next appear alongside Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Nicki Minaj in "The Other Woman," which is set to be released next year.
The supermodel recently made headlines after TMZ released an uncensored .gif of her topless on a horse during a photoshoot from two years ago.
