Williams' wife Susan Schnieder left Monday morning about an hour before police were called. She had assumed he was still sleeping.
In the report, Marin County Sheriffs Office say WIlliams "was in a seated position slightly suspended off the ground," Lt. Keith Boyd said.
"What that means is that his body looked like he was sitting in a chair," Boyd added.
Police also found some stab wounds in Williams' left wrist and a pocket knife near his body.
In the report Boyd says no signs of struggle were found and that the cause of death is being called suicide by asphyxia due to hanging.
Boyd did not confirm if Williams left a suicide note.
Toxicology reports are pending and could take two to six weeks to complete. Those reports will determine if Williams had any illegal or prescription drugs in his system at the time of his suicide.
