Former Florida Congressman Allen West Calls Obama ‘An Islamist'
Former Florida Rep. Allen West called President Barack Obama an Islamist who is trying to work against the security of the United States on Wednesday, according to a report from The Daily Caller.
West pointed to six examples that, for him, show Obama's Islamic tendencies, including the president's decision to release from captivity five members of the Taliban in exchange for an Army sergeant, giving arms to support the Egyptian government that is run by the Muslim Brotherhood and that he has taken part in negotiating with Hamas.
"The only plausible explanation for many actions taken by President Obama and his administration is that they are working counter to the security of the United States of America," the former Army lieutenant colonel wrote in a post.
In his post, West also expressed his opposition of an Obama decision to remove a ban on Libyans attending flight school in the U.S. and studying nuclear science. That ban had been in place since 1983, according to news reports.
"Can anyone explain what the strategy and objective is here in lifting this ban with a nation that is or should be on the terrorist watch list?" he wrote. "Sorry, but I can only explain this one way: Barack Hussein Obama is an Islamist in his foreign policy perspectives and supports their cause."
This is not the first time that West has thrown barbs at Obama. In the past, West has called Obama "a failure" and "an enemy of Israel." According to West's website, he was in the Army for 22 years before retiring in 2004. He now spends his time as a Fox News Contributor, a senior fellow at the London Center for Policy Research, and regularly writer for numerous media outlets.
"The pivot away from the Middle East seems to be nothing more than an opportunity to enable Islamists and their goals," West wrote. "Anyone supporting this Libyan ban being lifted is indeed an enemy of this state."
