Def Jam 30th Anniversary Concert Performances: Rick Ross, Fabolous, and 2 Chainz to Perform at NYC Concert
Def Jam Recordings has recently announced a massive, all-star concert to be held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
"I'm very excited to be a part of such a special announcement -- Def Jam Recordings 30th Anniversary Concert at the iconic Barclays Center -- which solidifies and continues the enduring mark the brand has made on pop culture," CEO of Def Jam Recordings Steve Bartels said in a statement via Barclays Center. "As the birthplace of hip-hop, there is no better place to celebrate such a cultural touchstone than in New York City itself."
The legendary hip-hop/rap/R&B label was launched back in 1984 by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin at the latter's New York University dorm room. It released its first tracks, LL Cool J's "I Need A Beat" and Beastie Boys' "Rock Hard" in the same year. Throughout those 30 years, the influential company has signed and released an extensive list of hitmakers and hip-hop legends like The Roots, Nas, Jay Z, Kanye West and Rihanna.
Def Jam's upcoming show is set to feature acts from veterans DMX, EPMD, Method Man, Redman, Onyx, Foxy Brown, Warren G and Ja Rule. Also, currently popular headliners, including Rick Ross, Fabolous, 2 Chainz, Jhené Aiko and Jeremih among other artists, will perform as well.
As part of the celebration, the record label will also release a limited edition multi-CD box set "DEF JAM 30," featuring a collection of music by Rubin himself, as well as a commemorative T-shirt and booklet on Sept. 16.
The highly anticipated forthcoming concert is slated to take place on October 16. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. EST on Aug. 22 on Ticketmaster.
