"The Originals" executive producer Julie Plec warns that being a vampire in New Orleans will come at a large expense when the hit TV series kicks off its second season on The CW this fall.
"New Orleans has been shaken to its core," Plec said about the upcoming season during an interview with Buddy TV.
Last season ended with an intense finale and a number of shocking moments, including Hayley's transition into a hybrid and the return of Rebekah. In addition, Klaus and Hayley's baby was finally born. However, after the birth of baby Hope, Klaus was forced to stage her death in order to protect her. In actuality, he sent his baby girl off to live with his sister Rebekah, who made a surprise return after the leaving the show earlier in the season.
Season 2 will pick up four months later, Plec said.
"The Vampires have been basically decimated and those that remain have been exiled out of the [French] Quarter," she said, adding that they will face death if they are found in the Quarter.
Meanwhile, the Original family is locked up in their compound and grieving over the loss of Hope, who will be safely hidden somewhere with Rebekah, co-producer Michael Narducci said.
In the meantime, the witches and werewolves will form an alliance and take over the city, Plec said.
Because the werewolves now have the power to reproduce the moonlight ring, they will create "a small army of stronger, faster, more dangerous werewolves in an alliance with the witches," Narducci said.
Plec went on to spill about the introduction of new characters in Season 2, including Davina's new love interest, Caleb, played by Daniel Sharman.
Sharman will play the "delightfully obnoxious, charming and wildly handsome Caleb" who "takes a liking to Davina and who has a few secrets of his own," Plec said.
Plec says that Esther and Mikael will become aware of each other after the first five episodes.
She added that Narducci is writing the script to tell Esther and Mikael's love story and "what turned Mikael into a monstrous man and Esther into the woman she is today."
The EP explained that the collapse of the Other Side is how Esther was able to return and bring "her son" back with her.
"It's now or never -- we're either bringing a brother and a mother back or we're done," she said, regarding the Other Side, adding that they will finally shut it down.
In addition, TVLine reported that "Devious Maids" star Colin Woodell has been cast in a reoccurring role in "The Originals" as Aiden, who's described as "a badass lieutenant in the reigning New Orleans werewolf pack, loyal to his people first but willing to align with witches if it allows him the power he needs to take down vampires. He'll do whatever it takes to protect his family, even if that means forming dangerous alliances."
Season 2 of "The Originals" will premiere on Oct. 6 on The CW.
