This weekend, creative minds have brought art to Mexico City with the Art Walk.

According to EFE, Mexico City is not the first city to see an Art Walk. The event has already been held successfully in places like Hong Kong, Los Angeles and New York.

"Bringing the arts into the streets is the No. 1 goal [of the festival]," Adan Villareal, director of Art Walk, said in an interview with the news agency.

Art Walk will be held in the Roma district of the city. The idea behind the festival is to provide entertainment to those who are already art fans and those who just happen to be walking around the neighborhood.

According to Villareal, those behind the event hope to "create a new awakening among pedestrians."

"A very interesting seed [is going to be planted] in people who are walking ... a couple was looking at the montage and was enthralled with the photos," he said.

Because Art Walk is literally "a walk," Villareal says that it creates "a constant flow" of passersby. As a result, the event is nothing like "stopping to watch a concert."

The Mexico City Art Walk features art exhibits from over 50 artists from all around the globe. They include Ciler, Saner, Jorge Alderete, Hector Falcon, Pedro Friedeberg, Cristobal Jodorowsky, Marco Kalach, Prince Lauder, Michael Nyman and Betsabee Romero.

In addition to art exhibits, gallery tours, children's entertainment, movies and concerts are also held during the event. The Art Walk will feature activities during both the day and night, according to Villareal.

Today, the Art Walk has garnered much attention on social media, especially Twitter. Attendees of the art festival have been posting pictures displaying some of their favorites pieces, including Los Felices by Ciler and El Aire Que Repsiramos by Claire Becker.
