Elizabeth Vargas Rehab 2014: ABC News Anchor Checks into Facility, Opens Up About Alcoholism
On Saturday, ABC News anchor Elizabeth Vargas checked back into rehab while vacationing in California, The New York Daily News reports.
Vargas, who has had a long-standing battle with alcoholism, released a statement on entering rehab once again.
In the statement, obtained by the New York Daily News, Vargas said that overcoming her addiction has been "difficult."
"While on vacation this weekend, I decided to return to a recovery center. As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process."
Vargas continues the statement with an apology to her co-workers and family whom she feels she has let down.
"I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry. I am committed to battling and addressing this debilitating disease and want to thank everyone who has offered their unwavering support during this trying time," Vargas said.
Prior to this latest rehab stint, Vargas previously checked into rehab last November, The New York Daily News reports. Vargas is also dealing with a pending divorce from her husband Marc Cohen who is rumored to have been cheating on Vargas while she was in rehab last fall.
ABC News has also issued a statement in support of Vargas' rehab stay and her struggles with alcoholism.
"Nothing is more important than Elizabeth's health and well-being and we stand squarely behind her," ABC News rep Julie Townsend said in a statement to the New York Daily News. "Our thoughts are with Elizabeth and her family, and we look forward to having her back at ABC News when she feels ready to return."
So far, there has been no news on how long Vargas will stay in rehab.
Vargas' last tweet following her rehab announcement was in tribute to the recent passing of Robin Williams who also suffered from addiction, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
