NBA Trade Rumors 2014: Rajon Rondo to the Sacramento Kings? Celtics Discussing Potential Trade
The Sacramento Kings and the Boston Celtics are reportedly discussing a potential trade involving All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo, who has been mentioned in several trade rumors over the past several months.
Sports Talk host Tyler Spence posted on his Twitter account that sources told him that there is an 80 percent chance that Rondo will be dealt to the Kings before the start of the 2014-15 season in exchange for a trade package including Ben McLemore and Derrick Williams.
"Source: Sacramento Kings/Boston Celtics deal now at '80 percent' to be completed before season. Deal includes McLemore, Williams for Rondo," Spence wrote.
Previous reports indicated that the Kings were one of the teams that made a strong push to acquire Rondo before last season's trade deadline, but the Celtics eventually decided to keep their superstar.
There is growing speculation that the Kings will look to strike a deal with the Celtics for Rondo this offseason after letting go of Isaiah Thomas, who averaged 20.3 points and 6.3 assists in 74 starts last season.
However, Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders reacted on the rumored trade between the Celtics and the Kings, saying that both teams insisted that there is no ongoing negotiation at this point.
Kyler recently wrote, though, that the Celtics will eventually trade Rondo before the 2014-15 NBA season trade deadline unless the 28-year-old point guard signs a long-term extension.
Rondo, who averaged 11.7 points to go along with 9.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds in 30 games last season, is expected to draw significant interest when he hits free agency next summer, and the Celtics might lose him without getting anything in return.
"Rondo is considered the top obtainable free agent in the 2015 free agent class and he is likely going to command a max level, or near max level contract," Kyler wrote. "It seem inevitable that Rondo is going to be traded, the question is what the return is going to be for Boston, especially when it's more likely than not that Rondo explores his options in July."
