‘Orange Is the New Black’ Cast News Update: 'Crazy Eyes' AKA Uzo Aduba Wins Emmy
On Saturday, Uzo Aduba, who plays "Crazy Eyes" on Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black," won a Creative Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy.
Aduba beat out five other actresses for the Creative Emmy, including her co-stars Natasha Lyonne and Laverne Cox, Us Weekly reports.
Morgan Freeman presented Aduba with the award, and upon accepting her first Emmy, Aduba commented on how "incredibly impressed" she is to be apart of "Orange Is the New Black."
"I'm speechless," Aduba said. "I don't know how to say how incredibly impressed I am to be a part of this show day in and day out."
Following her tearful speech, Aduba went backstage and explained the reason why she was so emotional.
"I feel so full, that's why the tears come out," Aduba told The Hollywood Reporter backstage. "I'm stuffed. My cup runneth over right now. Mission accomplished, thank you."
Aduba then went on to rave about the show's creator, Jenji Kohan. Aduba praised Kohan for instilling the "need to tell the truth" in her writers and actors.
"The thing I love most about working with Jenji is her want and this burning need to tell the truth, and it doesn't really matter the cost, what it takes to go here," she said. "She puts that and instills that in her writing and her writers, and it's just incredible."
Aduba concluded her praise for Kohan by calling "OITNB's" creator "mama bear."
"Her [Jenji's] heart is just mama bear for everybody on that team, not only for the art that she makes, but she wants to create a family there for us. She really does everything in her power to make sure that energy -- the love and the life that's present -- stay bright, and that makes it the perfect work environment."
Us Weekly reports, "Orange Is the New Black" is now up for nine regular Emmy awards, including one for Uzo Aduba. The regular Emmy awards will air on Monday, Aug. 25 at 8et/5pt. Will you be watching?
