'Frozen' Movie Online, 'Let It Go' and Soundtrack 2014: Disney Film Continues to Rescue Toymakers as Holiday Season Nears
The countdown has begun for the biggest shopping season in the U.S., and it is not hard to guess what toys will top the list of sales this year.
Disney's "Frozen" toys, games, shirts and more could hit $1 billion in the U.S., reports Fortune.
That estimate is especially significant because the movie was released more than nine months ago, and the popularity of products tied to the film don't show any signs of fading any time soon.
Because the film released so late in the year in 2013, retailers weren't able to latch onto the popularity of the film during the holiday season, but this year they will be able to -- in part because of its continued success.
"Frozen exceeded Disney's expectations," Jim Silver, editor-in-chief of toy-focused website TTPM.com, told Fortune. "Nobody expected this."
And just in time for the holidays, Disney is releasing a whole new line of products this fall including juice, yogurt, oral care products and fresh fruit.
"We are excited about the new Frozen line debuting this fall, which will incorporate more musical elements into the products and also includes several new categories to meet the strong demand for everything Frozen," Josh Silverman, executive vice president of global licensing at Disney Consumer Products, told Fortune.
Frozen' toys have reportedly been the saving grace for many toy companies this year, which will likely only be enhanced during the holiday shopping season.
Barbie-maker Mattel told the Daily Mail last month that despite declines in Barbie sales, Frozen dolls and toys saw an increase.
"We're working very hard to literally chase demand" for dolls based on "Frozen" characters, Mattel CEO Bryan Stockton told the New York Post last month.
