R&B singer and reality-TV star Ray J pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges stemming from an alleged altercation earlier this summer at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. His charges included misdemeanor counts of battery, vandalism and resisting a police officer.

A preliminary hearing for the case was scheduled for Aug. 28 in Los Angeles County Superior Court after Ray J entered his plea, according to the LA Times.

The incident involving Ray J, whose legal name is William Ray Norwood Jr., occurred May 30 around 7:30 p.m. when a woman accused him of grabbing her butt in the hotel bar. Police say the "I Hit It First" singer "became belligerent with the valets and refused to leave" the bar, according to Beverly Hills Public Information Officer Lieutenant Lincoln Hoshino.

The 33-year-old "For the Love of Ray J" star became even more unruly after police took him into custody, kicking out a patrol car window with his feet after being arrested. When officers restrained his feet, police said Ray J "became combative" and spit on one of the officers.

It was later determined that the sexual battery allegations were unfounded and there was no groping done by the singer. Any contact Ray J had with the woman was deemed "incidental."

Ray J was released after bail was set at $20,000.

In 2011, Ray J was arrested in Las Vegas for reportedly feuding with rapper Fabolous. Fabolous had made comments about Norwood's song "One Wish" via Twitter and when Ray J confronted him before a performance at the Palms Casino, fists began to fly.

He is the younger brother of actress and songstress Brandy Norwood. Ray J also garnered notoriety in 2007 outside of his singing career after a homemade sex tape was released by Vivid Entertainment, reportedly of him and reality-TV megastar Kim Kardashian.
