'Insurgent' News,Trailer,Cast & Release Date: Why 'Divergent' Sequel Will Succeed
After "Divergent" was a huge success, audiences are gearing up for the sequel to the science fiction film "Insurgent."
The film is slated for March of next year and there is a lot of information that has come out in recent weeks.
Here is a look at what we know so far:
The Trailer to Premiere in Front of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay"
Ever since "Divergent" came out, the series was being compared to "The Hunger Games." This was because both movies' style, look and narrative were very similar. As result, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have revealed that the trailer to "Insurgent" will premiere in front of "Mockingjay Part 1."
Jon Feltheimer, president of Lionsgate stated, "All the signs are pointing to ['Divergent'] growing into another big young adult franchise like 'Twilight' and 'The Hunger Games.' With the first 'Insurgent' trailer slated to debut with the release of 'Mockingjay' in November, skyrocketing book sales, a stellar home entertainment launch and stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort generating ever-increasing online buzz, I think you can understand why we believe that the 'Divergent' series is becoming very special."
"Insurgent" Will Be Bigger and Darker
Every time there is a sequel, there is an expectation that each film will be more epic. Lionsgate's president president has promised the movie will include bigger action sequences.
Feltheimer said, "There's a huge train sequence, which is this massive fight with Tris and Four and about 40 people. There's also some amazing stuff when Tris is being forced to go through the Fear Landscapes with Jeanine [Kate Winslet]. It's so much bigger and has all these rich themes of trust and betrayal and a love story between two people that you haven't seen in films of this nature before."
Star Ansel Elgort has also promised the film will be dark in tone. "It is like Divergent but a little bit darker and less introductory," Elgort said in an interview with HollywoodLife. "It is more about the characters"
Naomi Watts Joins the Cast
The British-Australian actress will play the role of Evelyn in the film. The character Watts will play is Four's mother who is thought to be dead in the first movie. Evelyn is also the leader of factionless zone and is planning a rebellion against the whole system.
Watts' addition to the series marks her first franchise appearance. While the actress has starred in a number of blockbuster hits such as "King Kong," she has never reprised a role in a series.
Watts is an Academy-nominated actress who is known for her work "The Impossible," "21 Grams" and will next be seen in "Mr. Vincent" and "Birdman." Watts is also scheduled to appear in both Allegiant films.
"Insurgent" Will Likely Be a Huge Box Office Hit
After having opened to more than $50 million and grossing $150 million, "Divergent" confirmed that the series could have legs and potentially become another huge franchise. Films based on young adult films have been hit or misses throughout the past years and the fact that this movie did so well is sign of a huge following and good marketing.
Another reason why this film will succeed is Shailene Woodley's rising star power. This summer Woodley led "The Fault in Our Stars" to become one of the stand outs of the summer as it made $112 million.
