The fairytale is over for singer Mariah Carey and actor/presenter Nick Cannon.

Sources connected to the couple tell TMZ that Cannon and Carey separated back in May and have been living apart ever since. Currently, divorce lawyers are negotiating a property settlement and custody agreements for the couple's twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

Both Mariah and Nick have been denying the rumors of their separation, but according to this source, their separation is very real. The extent of their contact is simply when Nick comes over to Mariah's NYC home to see their kids. Other than that, Nick is staying in a separate place in the Big Apple.

So what could have possibly separated the couple that renewed their vows in Disney Land just last year?

It all started during Nick's appearance on Big Boy's radio show in March where Nick just said too much. When Big Boy asked Nick to name five celebrities he had slept with, Mr. Carey happily answered. He did name his wife first, but then mentioned reality star Kim Kardashian which fueled a weeks-long argument in the Cannon/Carey household.

The "Beautiful" singer felt humiliated by the name dropping and it only got worst when Nick went on the Howard Stern show to stir up the mess. He confessed to the controversial host that Mariah didn't have sex with him until they were married, which was the drop that spilled the glass.

Mariah recently mentioned on The Breakfast Club, another famous radio show, that she wasn't thrilled with her husband's chatty mouth but continued to deny the breakup.

Sources say that Mariah also feels abandoned by her husband because he continues to take every gig on the table when they don't need the money. Cannon says he generated $75 million since 2011 for the family but Mariah still prefers he would spend more time with their kids at home.

Nick's side of the story is that his wife has become too impossible because too many "yes men" surround her. Her constant bickering seems to have driven him away.
